Clip to ScrapBook
True, there are religious and cultural significance that need to be handled tactfully as well as to avoid common stereotypes of Native Americans. However, it can be done! I have not done a "powwow" but we do a unit on Native Americans. What if you do centers that they can rotate to? Read The Popcorn Book by Tomie DePaola and eat a popcorn snack, decorate something to wear with pictographs, make a tipi from tortilla, give themselves a Native American name, buddy read a legend, etc. Good Luck!
