I'd control his environment so he has some successes...structure the recess just as rigidly as you have his academic day. I'd begin with indoor recess with him choosing a friend to stay in with him....give them some controlled choices of play activities....when he is successful with one child over a period of say 1 week add in another child, he may chose 2 friends for indoor recess....I'm thinking when he's ready to go outdooors he's going to need you to monitor or a playground aide....
