New students, no warnings

Although I am the principal, I find myself in the same sitautions. I plan my day's agenda--ARD meetings, parent conferences, faculty meetings, committee meetings, etc. and then walks in a new family--no appointment, no warning. It's so hard, but there's no way to turn down a child in a public school and tell them to just "come back at a more convenient time." We all take the whatever comes, whenever it comes. I know that frustration and I wish I had more encouragement to offer, but there's really no hope in sight!
