teaching reading
By Theresa Williams

Clip to ScrapBook
For your high school students I would concentrate on more functional skills like reading ads for items of interest to them, grocery labels, filling out applications, clipping coupons and matching to grocery items, reading signs in the community, in stores, in school, following simple recipes and words that go along with that. I wouldn't worry about phonics, just sight vocab. but functional. Maybe do an interest inventory to see what they do in leisure, the movie/entertainment page in newspaper, video games and movies, music, etc and concentrate on their interests. Hope this helps
