Or, why not use the same text for shared reading, and during your guided reading, extend the text you are using for shared reading (i.e. do deeper character analysis, comparing/contrasting, inferential lessons, etc). Of course, since guided reading is based on text levels, you could only use your grade level texts with students on or above grade level, but this will save you from having to dig out more leveled texts. For lower students, use shorter leveled books that they can read in a day or two, and do mini-lessons with those small guided reading groups.
