name activities By jeanne

Chrysanthemum By Kevin Henkes is of course a wonderful book to read when talking about names. After reading the book we discuss the "absolutely perfect" names that student's parents picked for them. Were they named for their parent, a special relative or other important person? Does their name have a meaning in another language? I give each child a large sheet of paper with their name printed on it. They decorate the letters of their name to reflect things that are important to them or tell something about them. It is a great "getting to know you" activity.
