Spelling
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
I think that it's a pretty common problem for children to do well on tests, but not apply correct spelling to these same words in their daily writing. I personally have trouble giving a high spelling grade to a child who consistently basic words incorrectly--no matter how well they did on the test.

One way I even this out is to record a daily grade each week as well. I label it "Application" and it's based on how well the students spell these basic words. (A rough variation of Rebecca Sitton, I suppose) We also do dictation from time to time.
