are names I call my sixth graders at times. They like it. They always smile when I do. I don't think anything is wrong doing this. I thought all principals want us to be positive with kids. At least that is what they have been hounding on us all these years. Now, you have a principal who wants you to treat students as if they are just a name or a number. Kids like these little pet names once in a while.
I can't believe that your principal would even bring this up. Shame on him. These kids nowdays go through a lot in their home lives as it is. A little sweetie here and there certainly isn't going to hurt them.
