Subject/Predicate

Last year some of my 5th graders had a difficult time with this topic. I happened to have the "School House Rocks" CD, which has a song pertaining to subjects and predicates. I don't remember the exact title of the song, but it is a rap song that talks about a man named Mr. Morton. The song is about a girl (Pearl)that he likes, and all the things he does to get her to notice him. The chorus goes something like this:
"Mr. Morton is the subject of the sentence,
The predicate is what he does..."
This really helped my struggling students because they could sing the song and then apply the lyrics to the classroom.
