Same thing happened to me this week, but the boy was in second grade. He waited a long time to ask me, and I said yes, but told him he had to write his name on the paper he had just turned in before he could go. He was too nice to tell me that it was an emergency. I was freaking out because a veteran teacher said, "The parents always get mad when they have an accident," (a fact I have found to be true thus far). Thankfully, I had the kid's brother last year, and the parents were very kind and supportive to me. You should be glad you had the same experience.And, oh yes, I taught fifth grade once, and I had a kid have an accident then, too.
