Procedure Manual

Along the lines of the last post, I have a procedure manual that has done WONDERS with "rowdy" classes. It lays out the procedure for everything in my class. From when to sharpen a pencil, to getting water, to entering the classroom, what to do when the teacher is talking to an adult, even a chart of how to organize their desks. We review and practice every procedure until it is so engrained that the kids have no opportunity to get off task. And as the year progresses, we take time to review the books if need be (and sometimes we review them more than once!!) One other advantange I have found to having it in book form is that the students have a quick reference if an individual needs a "refresher" on a procedure.
