Hi! We use word walls in our school, and each week we put the weekly word wall words on our wall. We test the kids on Thursday. I like to do the testing myself, but other teachers have a TA or aide do their testing. I do the testing on Thursdays during reading rotations (we first run through the words together, then test individually). I am teaching Jr. 1st and they'll get them again next year in first, so I don't worry about those kids who can't read them all, but I know the first grade teachers keep track and retest on the words they don't have, or can spell. We also have games that we play with the kdis...dictation using the words, word finds, etc that we use to reinforce the words.HTH
