I have a poster in my room that I made. It looks rather like a goal chart for raising money. I wrote down a variety of levels of noise that could occur in the classroom. I move a pointer to the spot of the noise level that I expect. For example if I am teaching a lesson where I would like the students to listen and raise their hands to respond, I put the pointer on silent. If we are having a group discussion, I put it on Regular Voice. If they are working w/ groups it is on quiet voice. During my language block, I put it on quiet whispers for conferencing. When we are chanting for a phonics activity, I close the door and put it on Loud Voice. The kids love this. I hope this helps!
