I wish that I could be in agreement with the other folks who have posted. They are all very encouraging. However, at year 16 I long for other options. As a divorced mom, any other job I chose would involve (A) personal poverty , (B) less time for my middle school daughter or (C) both!
I like the children. I am at a school that has home and community support. So why do I urge you to get out while you still can?...."No Child Left Behind", America's Choice Schools, and "Standards". The workload placed on teachers is unrealistic. I have also taught kindergarten and first grade in the inner city. It is a daunting task.
If you choose another line of work, the time you spent teaching is not wasted. But you don't want to be in so long that you feel you have no other options.
