Patience, patience, patience! I don't doubt that the teen age years are a whole new ball game. Let's talk about light at the end of the tunnel. We went through the "3 teen agers at a time" stage. Now they are 17, 19 and 22 and more adult than not. My daughters shared a room, number one was fairly neat, number two was not, BUT when she graduated and moved into an apartment she helped her roomates organize and it has looked good every time I've been there.
If kids really want a car, suggest they get a job and actually get one for themselves, 16 is old enough for bag boy/check out type jobs.
The fact that the rest of the world is seeing the positives of your kids is great, take strength in that. At home they are in that limbo suspended between being kids and trying to be adult. Eventually adult wins out.
