That's not normal!

Clip to ScrapBook
I've been teaching 29 years, most of which have been in second grade, and that is very sad to think that the children have all those worksheets. I rarely use them. There are so many other interesting and fun ways to motivate
the kids to learn. I would never have lasted this long if I had had to depend on paper pencil tasks to get the job done. Also, I think it is a crime that those second graders are not being read to daily!! That is one thing that never gets skipped in my classroom. Story time is a favorite for both the kids and for me. Many of them are never read to at home, so it is so important that
they hear read-alouds at school. Please don't think that your classroom has to be like your cooperating teacher's. Think about what your kids will remember--how much fun they had learning with you, or how many worksheets they completed!
