eye voice connection
By ABC123

Clip to ScrapBook
I copied a short paragraph on a transparency. I explaind that when you read your eyes are ahead of your voice. I also explaind that you had to "moosh" words together and not read a paragraph like a list.
So... then I
put the story on the overhead and started reading. Before I got to the end of the story, I turned the overhead off and continued to read a few words. The kids were amazed that I could still read a few words after I turned it off. It just seemed to click with my group.
Then, I put up a different story and let them try it. Right before they got to the end I turned it off. They were jumping
up and down when they realized what was happening. So was I.
My kids are actually reading without it sounding like they are reading a list. Try it. I teach second- it will work even better with your age group!
