25 Book Campaign
By Stephanie

Clip to ScrapBook
Our school instituted the "25 book campaign". Each student in the school (1st to 5th) was required to complete 25 grade level appropriate reading books per year. They each had a reading log with a space for book title,
author, number of pages/chapters, response section and parent signature. Each book had to be documented and verified by either a parent or teacher. Responses varied, but could be a summary, opinion, etc...

We had a kick-off ceremony where various higher ups in the district came (we are in Los Angeles Unifed so we had our local superintendent, board members etc...) 1/2 way through the

year we would have a recognition ceremony for those who ready 12 books. Then at the end of the year, those who read all 25 received a bevy of reading related prizes as well as a district sponsored pizza party!

This was very motivating to the students at our school. And we have been doing it for 3 years now.
