Give them controlled choices
By Coach

Clip to ScrapBook
Have a consequence in mind and offer it as a choice. The choice you offer should be alittle worse than doing what you want them to do. Lets use your seat and trash examples:

"Don, I need you to pick up the trash under your
desk now or you can stay in during lunch to help me clean my whole classroom."

"Mike, I need you to move to this desk over here or you'll have to sit at the one by my desk."

This will work as long as you:
get to know your students
can deliver on the choice they choose (even when it is the wrong choice lol)
Give them a reasonable amount of time to choose. (If they are angry

walk or back away and let them have have a minute or 2) - then you can always come back with well xx, what's it going to be?

well anyway, its just 1 idea to try - good luck
