Body Odor
By Nancy

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach an intermediate, Grade 4/5 class. I tackle this "issue" Day 1 at school. When I am talking about what they need for PE, I talk about how their bodies are changing, and as people get older, their perspiration has an
odor- and that I expect that I will smell perspiration when they get back from the gym because they all have been working so hard. I also tell them, that as young adults they need to be getting into the habit of having a shower every day - especially gym days. I talk frankly, but respectfully. At the same time I talk about needing a fresh change of clothes the next day after gym, and they
they are now old enough to take clothes to the hamper...etc. etc...I reinforce this often at the beginning of the year. Then, if and when I have any students who are having hygene difficulties, it can be approached as a reminder- not that they have been singled out.
