Clip to ScrapBook
Jamie,

There's no need to feel silly about asking for advice. As a parent of a young woman about your age, I will volunteer another piece of advice that I often offer to her when she is in a quandry. Trust your gut;
it will seldom steer you wrong.

You were listening to your gut when you felt uncomfortable about babysitting for your cooperating teacher. The reasons that you felt that way were valid. The fact that your mother volunteered your services without consulting you is beside the point. You had mentioned that this woman had previously utilized the services of a student teacher under her

supervision to provide free babysitting. In my opinion, this is taking unfair advantage of a subordinate and steps beyond the boundaries of an appropriately professional relationship.

If the situation should arise again, trust your instincts and, if it continues to be a problem for you, mention it to your teaching advisor at your college and ask how you should handle it.
