Everyday math
By Christina

Clip to ScrapBook
Hello! My district adopted the everyday math program 3 years ago. This is my third time teaching it and believe me IT GETS BETTER! As your kids come from kindergarten with the math langauage that you will use you will
see a difference.

It sounds like your kiddos aren't ready for some of the games yet? FYI, I don't introduce small group games until the middle of the year. (You are referring to the TOP-IT game?) Many of them have probably played "war" at home. This game is similar. If they are having trouble telling which card is higher could you let them find thier number on a number line/ or

use pennies to compare? (I know this means more manipulatives...).

I hear your frustrations. I wish I could be more help. Just know that it will be better. If your kiddos aren't ready for a particular concept then take a break from EDM and teach them what they need to know! You're the teacher!

Good Luck!
