special education teaching
By Bridget

Clip to ScrapBook
I highly recommend that you get on sub list and request to work only in Special Education and Remedial classes. Make sure that this is exactly what you want to do before investing money in further education.

I began with
Elementary Ed. certificate. While subbing I discovered that I loved Special Education classes. "Sp. Ed." covers a broad range of challenges. I got to work in everything from "Severe and Profound" to mild Learning Disabilities. Then I was assigned to a maternity leave position which allowed me to see the scope of the job over several months.

In my small school district we have had several

student teachers at the Masters level and new teachers that discovered they really did not want to teach in their new area of certification. That is a very costly discovery.

In my case, this is my 25th year and I still love it. I guess that's why I'm checking this board while home sick!
