privacy laws
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
At our school, we are not allowed to send an e-mail regarding a student's discipline problems from our classroom. We were told that the e-mail is monitored, and therefore, we were not assured privacy.

We were also told
not to allow the kids to swap papers to grade them.

I have never heard the part about the grade books taken out of the classroom. Most of us do ours on the computer at home.

We are not permitted to mention the names of the two students involved in an incident on a single referral. We have to word it this way: Matthew punched another student from the classroom on the head.

I

have spoken with grandparents about their grandchildren's problems at school when moms and dads weren't available. However, I have voluntarily stopped this practice, because some parents have become irate about this. They want me to address them directly, not their parents.

I can understand some of it and do respect people's right to privacy.
