Square house & red & green family member strips
By cdg

Clip to ScrapBook
How about a house made from a square (with a bunch of squares for windows, etc.). Then, have strips of red & green paper. At table time, have each child assemble a house and then pick a paper strip for each family member.
Have children write (or dictate) the names of each family member, one name per strip. Make a paper chain (red-green-red-green patterning) of the name strips and attach to the bottom of the house. At circle time, children take turns showing off their house & talking about who's in their family. You can graph how many rings each house has and then see whose family is the largest, whose
family is the smallest, etc.
We did this in my classroom & included identifying your home address/street. I had typed up addresses on labels & then read them off; children had to identify which one was theirs & it was put on the house.
When you think about it, you cover colors, shapes, family/personal information/identification, glueing & scissors skills, writing, math graphing, making comparisons, etc. and they look neat hanging from the ceiling!
