Centers
By Lesa

Clip to ScrapBook
I bought a book called, "What Are the Other Children Doing". It's one of my favorite books. I have four centers; Working With Words (spelling); Art; Listening; and Writing. The best way to do them is to introduce your
centers in whole group (circle time). Then, put it in the centers. Ideas for spelling are...small dry erase board/markers to practice words, "walk the wall" where I used dowels and glued on baby shoes, then make footprints up the wall with the spelling words; small chalk boards/colored chalk to practice words; "spill and spell" where I got small ceramic tiles and wrote a letter on each
one, then got film containers and put spelling words in each writing the word on the outside. Once they have spelled the word, they write it. I LOVE centers. At the end of the centers, we "debrief" and talk about what went well and not so well. This lets me know if my students are enjoying and learning from what I have prepared, because if not, it's not worth the time. E-mail me if you want other ideas.
