cursive
By Chris

Clip to ScrapBook
The students in our district don't begin to learn cursive until third grade (consequently we're only about 1/2 way through the lowercase letters now). I had one student who started to write everything in cursive even though
we haven't learned all of the letters, I suppose to feel more "grown up". I tried to make a huge deal out of this and how impressed I was that she was putting forth that effort and going the extra mile. From that, I had about 2 others who tried - now I have quite a few that are trying to write everything in cursive. I haven't pushed them to write in cursive yet - I just allow them
to do what they feel comfortable with. Right now I have several who write completely in cursive, some who write their name in cursive but not the rest of their work, and some who aren't ready to do any at all. I am trying to slowly switch my writing to cursive throughout the year too so hopefully that will help to inspire them too.
