readers

Clip to ScrapBook
This year I have six children reading. Three are at level 2 and the other three are at level 4 although one of those is probably a bit higher. I think three is a great size for an early reading group so during center time
I run guided reading for those two groups. The rest of the class meet with me as well in groups of four for their own regular guided reading lessons. With these last two groups I am working on the concept of a word, letter ID, finding meaning in illustrations, etc. We read simple text together with finger pointing. I also pull out this weeks poem in their journals and guide them through
circling each of the words. They are very proud of themselves, feel like readers, and are developing some good knowledge. I meet with all of these groups at least 3 times a week as I can usually get two groups in each day. I also have a couple of very low kids who work one on one with my aide or myself for letter ID and they have modified work board centers.
