I agree with previous posters. Keep the party lower key, near the end part of the day. Keep at least your morning on a regular schedule. You can get reading, writing and math done. Of course, you could still use the theme| during these activities. When you do have the party, you can have the children each bring something to eat, or you can have your room-rep ask say three parents to supply cut up veggies and dip, one to supply cookies, and one to send a drink. (Those parents will not be approached for another party.) You can share the food, watch a video, have free choice activities they love, move |
| to some music, do a craft, (or decorate a cupcake) and send them home promptly without a lot of mess to clean up in your room. In the "long ago time" when five parents each sent in a treat, most of it went into the garbage. Children in Gr 1 have pretty small tummies actually. But I sure love to see them crowding around the veggies munching and dipping and asking for seconds! Fruit and dip, or crackers and cheese would work too.
