Clip to ScrapBook
I assign a different country to a group of students and have them do research on their country: political system, geography, climate, culture & traditions, places to visit, history, etc. that they post on a tri-fold board.
(I was thinking it might be neat to have pairs of students do a country this year and have them do a basic PowerPoint Presentation). I also invite parents that have visited or lived in any of these countries to come in and talk to the class. My old school library had a couple of videos that shared the way of life from a child's point of view in several of the countries. We also learn
basic Spanish.

This usually takes several weeks. Then, we end the unit with a fiesta where they bring in food from their country and dress up and share their reports. Last year, I held the Fiesta in the evening and all of my families came with food to share. The kids entertained with songs they had practiced in Music class and dances that the P.E. teacher had taught them. The cafeteria was decorated with posters of their work and flags of their countries. It was a lot of fun!
