Homework
By Kimberly

Clip to ScrapBook
My second graders do spelling and math HW each night. They return it the next day. We check the math together so they can see what they did wrong. It is an instant visual for the children for what they need to work on.
If they didn't do the work, I give them another copy. If they can get it done before recess, they don't miss any. If not, they complete it at recess. I also have a reading log where the kids are required to read for 40 minutes each week. It is due every Wednesday. I am thinking of adding a book report form (very simplistic) for each week to choose the favorite book they read and complete
the report form. Maybe I'll only do it once a month...who knows. Just a thought.

I am also starting to send home vocabulary words for the week for the reading story and the science or social studies we are learning that week. I will send it with the definitions so parents can help their child learn these words. Our time is very limited and our curriculum is very challnging, so I need all the reinforcement at home I can get.
