Lit Centers
By JB

Clip to ScrapBook
I try to keep the centers simple and always go back to the essential question...How will this help them improve their reading?
One of the favorites is the pocket chart poems. I have a PC rack that holds two sides(2 kids
each side), but one is fine. I write out a familiar poem, chant, or song on sentence strips. This could be a poem you've used for shared reading already. They manipulate them on the PC, put them in the correct order (a hard copy of the poem is available if needed), use a popsicle stick pointer to point and read with a partner.
Other options include:
*While the partner looks
away the other switches two lines and then the partner has to reread to find the change and fix it.
* Rewrite the whole poem on separate strips after they are very familiar with it. Then they have to match each word to the poem right on top of the first set. Then the partners can switch around a few words to play the switch/find game.
There's a fun book available along these lines called Interactive Charts by Scholastic also. There's lots of chart ideas!!
