Yes we are By Chicago Teacher

Hi, I wanted to let you know that our school also requires fingerprints for parents who volunteer on a regular basis. They don't require, but prefer that parents who go on field trips are also fingerprinted. I think the| fingerprinting is meant to be a deterant, and also a way for the school to cover itself legally in the case that something did happen with a volunteer at the school. It is a pain to have to require fingerprinting, but unfortunately I think it's something that does make our schools more safe. The only problem I see with it is that people tend to assume that just because someone has no prior | | record, they are 100% safe. Just because someone is a parent does not mean that person is necessarily safe, and you have to remember that a parent volunteer is not only working with their own child, but others as well. As far as what an appropriate Christian response might be, I would say that we are called to protect and grow God's children and that includes making sacrifices. I personally like knowing that parents who volunteer in my classroom are dedicated and interested enough to be willing to go through the paperwork and process to do so.
