Hang in there By Don't Quit
|
|
I taught in an inner city for a leave as well and felt the same way in the beginning as you do. My only advice is to hang in there. Don't leave them like so many other people, family members or teachers have probably done| so in their lives already. Let them know you care, that you are there for them, you are there to teach them and work with them and if they aren't going to follow your rules then they can leave your classroom (I used to send mine to the office or made them sit out in the hallway.) Over do it with positive encouragement and special rewards and incentives to those who are listening and trying | | to learn. Remind those being disruptive that they are being rude to their own classmates who want to learn. From my experience it seems as though after a while, those who want to learn jump on my bandwagon in telling their own peers to quiet down and listen. Hang in there, I truly think kids have an uncanny way of reading the teacher and determining whether or not the teacher is confident or not, nervous or intimidated. Be strong. They'll come through. Keep us posted on how you make out! Good luck!
