library

Clip to ScrapBook
Damaris,
I am also a librarian and I teach all grade levels about the library and the resources there. For example - you can teach the class about the different parts of the book - covers, spine, pages, title page, spine
label, bar code (if you are computerised.) Then there is the table of contents, glossary, index. You could make your own books.
You can teach them how to look after books - maybe make a poster about care of books. Then you can teach them about the different parts of the libray. - fiction, non-fiction, reference, picture books etc.
Doing a research project is a good idea - they
will need to know how to search for information and information literacy has always been the responsibility of the person teaching library lessons. Once you have that under control (although be warned it can take a lifetime the way technology is changing) you might like to introduce some authors suitable for the age of your class and do some activities related to those books.
Don't forget to talk about how libraries these days are not just for books, but should be the storage place for all types of media and information.
I feel that all of the above are appropriate for "libray time". Good luck.
