Pros and Cons By Ron

There are many cons: buildings with vermin, lack of supplies, parents who don't give a damn, parents who are less educated thantheir children, more money spent on security than on books and supplies, kids with so-called "issues"| and much much more. But the rewards are much greater. You have a chance to give love to many children who come from homes where love is talked about but not practiced. You have a chance to raise the self-esteem of children who are told that their only birthright is failure. You have a chance to see beacons of light come from the realization from a struggling child that he or | | she, too, is smart. You have some of the greatest parents in the world who appreciate your efforts and don;t attempt to take over your classroom like so many in suburbs believe they are entitled to do. You'll see the greatest acts of sharing from children who have the least. You'll be treated to a loyalty and return love that will melt your heart. Moreso than in suburbia, you can become a real difference-maker to these kids. Yes, some will break your heart, some will break your spirit. Some days you may want to quit. But if you really care, you'll grow to love them and battle through the tougher times.
