Best time of my day! By Lisa WA

I'll admit it takes some training to get my kids to behave like I want them to, but once we get that nailed down, centers are relatively easy! I block out 30 min. a day for centers, and the kids go to a different center each day. So, I plan 5 centers for the week, and by going to one a day, all the kids make it to all five centers by the end of the week. Here's this week for me: Math: play dice multiplication game with a partner (no prep for me at all) Reading: read an Accelerated Reader book silently (also no prep for me) Social Studies: geography/map skills worksheet in which the kids map | | out a city by following directions (had to make the copies) Computers: scavenger hunt for our class website (had to write the scavenger hunt and make copies) Writing: write 3 paragraphs about your first week in 4th grade (surprises, exciting things, disappointments, etc) (no prep for me--but this is the group I'm working with this week, so I spend most of my time here teaching and reviewing writing skills)Centers are such a great tool for reviewing, enriching, and working with kids on their level. And, they don't have to be hard or complicated! Good luck!
