Believe it or not, I have just started and "academy" (fancy word for project!) in my county on this very subject! One teacher in our district had his computers moved so that each table in the room has a computer. The students| at that table use the computer to do research in cooperative learning groups. This is my goal. I am NOWHERE near that yet. I have begun using webquests. These can be found on the internet using google.com. They are prepared "adventures" that students log onto and complete. Sometimes there is even a worksheet or planning sheet to complete. My students have complete some in the | | room and they usually work in pairs. The other students in the room will work with their partners on other center activities related to the quest. To find one, type in the subject and the word webquest (Ieven include primary) on a search engine. The only site I can think of right now is www.literacy.uconn.edu. You'll have to look around, but there is a list of webquests on there. Try one out for yourself before you try it in class. Also, my research teacher helped my students take research they had done on the body systems adn turn them into powerpoint pages. We put the pages together so that the students had a slide ahow about the body.
