calendar
By Sandy

Clip to ScrapBook
We put the numbers in as each day goes by. We start always by counting from the begining of the month. Then the children will tell me what today's number will be. I also have all of my calendar pieces made to create a
pattern. For example, Saptember is school bus, school house, school bus, school house, etc. The children will have to tell me what calendar shape will go up on that day. We also talk about what yesterday's number was and what tomorrow's will be. We go over the days of the week and weather each day. We tally every day we are in school per month, and then we can compare which month had
the most and the fewest days of school. (They love that!) We also do our place value straws (add one each day and bundle at 10) and add a new number to our animal train for the number of days we have been in school. Taking apart the calendar can be a lot of fun too! I ask the children to help me take it apart when the month changes. It helps with number identification and I can observe quickly if children are having difficulty identifying numbers. I love my calendar routine and it works well with my class. I hope you find one that works well for you!
