Nothing is wrong with you By Kris

I think you need someone to go to bat for you in order to get a teaching job. I, too, did a long-term sub position in an area outside my certification, put my heart and soul into it and here I am jobless today. I am in CT| too and just signed up to sub. One personnel director told me he had 1300 applications and 35 were hired this year, lower than usual. (usually it's 55). He said teachers aren't retiring and your professors don't tell you this at school. Sure, some positions are listed, but legally, I think districts have to post them and these positions are really already promised to others. Who are these | | "others"? I think they are student teachers of teachers who have power in a school, daughters of mothers who know the "right" people. Not sons, because if you're a man in elementary, they'll scoop you right up! If subbing this year does not lead my way to a job for next year, I do not know what I will do. I have three kids, one who is going to college next year...the hiring process needs an overhaul because these are children we are talking about! Try to stay positive, realize the right place hasn't shown itself yet for us and know you are not alone. I feel it every day.
