I have a game that takes very little preparation and the kids love it! My kids sit in 6 groups of 4, but you may want to divide the class based on the number of words you have. We usually have 4-6 words so we play two ways.
At first I had 1 child come up and we give clues to that child. Clues can be definitions, synonyms, antonyms, used in context using the word "blank" , number of syllables, etc. No rhyming of letter giving. So one child is up there trying to gain a point for his/ her team. If your clue makes the person get the word your team also gets 1 point. I just write the word on the board
behind the student. If a cluegiver accidentally says the word he/she loses a point for their team and another word is given after we discuss the word. You can put dictionaries, and thesauruses on each table group so that kids can look up words that are unfamiliar. Later on I will have 1 person up for each team. We play the game for 1 month and then start with new teams. I do this because we only have about 6 words per week right now.
I hope this is clear because my kids love this game, and look forward to playing each week.
