Susan:
Don't be frustrated. I've taught second grade for over 25 years, but they keep changing the rules. One thing that has helped me is completing my lesson plans on the computer. I made a spreadsheet that looks like
the my lesson plan book. Many skills in Phonics and Reading are repetitive. If you have the information in your computer (a template) all you have to do is change a few words in the objective and change the page numbers. If the activities are different you can change those too. Save them each week and next year, your plans will be done and all you have to do is cut and paste them into
a new document. After I complete them I print them out and use a glue stick to put them in my book. I don't give as many pencil and paper assignments as before. If you can get dry erase slates or individual blackboards, have children complete math activities on their slates. Practice several problems together. Give them 4 or 5 problems and then give them a slate grade. You can walk around and do that in about five minutes. You can also use the slates for spelling, phonics, and language. Check papers every day and then you won't get too far behind. Don't stress; do your best. Hang in there and remember to have fun!
