Clip to ScrapBook
May I suggest that you approach her in a manner as to seek her assistance in organizing/running the room. You're the new kid on the block & she's probably been there for years & feels she knows how things run better than
you. My first year teaching I had an experienced aide who was young enough to be my daughter, but she actually did know how to do some things better than me. Ask for her input & suggestions, making her feel that she has some control, or say, on what goes on in the room. You do not have to take her suggestions, but at least ask for them & perhaps you can build on them to make them work more
to your liking, and acknowledge that she gave you the idea in the first place. Perhaps let her leave "her desk" in the room, but put the room back to the way you want it: "let's try it this way & see if it works". Perhaps if her desk placement becomes awkward or a problem in the scheme of things, it will just have to be removed or "downsized". I also suggest that you document things & keep your principal informed of the situation. Another possible source for help may be your teacher union reps or teaching team members. Good Luck. I hope the situation improves
