carpet times
By Michele

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I can tell you what I do...though I'm not sure it will be any help! :o) I have Jr. 1st graders who are VERY busy. We have a rule that you have to keep your bodies to yourselves. I will give one warning, then I will
send students to their desks until they are able to control their bodies. I ALWAYS remind them that they are welcome to come back to the carpet when they feel they can control themselves. (I also remind them after a minute or two that they can come back).

On the other hand, if it is nearly the whole class that is wiggley, I usually stand up and we do "Shake your Silly's Out"

or another movement song, then I repeat my expectations. If they still can't conrtol themselves, we just finish at our desks. Most of the time, the kids like do activities in our calendar area, so they settle down after a warning.

If everybody is being naughty, I say "freeze" and count back from 5, when I get to 0 I start counting up and for each number I count the class owes me 1 minute of heads down time. Once they've all owed me minutes once, I usually don't have to count down past 3 before I have everyones attention.

Hope this helps a little!

Michele
