Lab mix and crate
By Dawn

Clip to ScrapBook
Our dog is a lab/golden retriever mix, about 85 pounds. He loves the crate; we keep it in the boys' room (lots of lovely human smells in there) and he stays in it during the day. He is 2 years old and probably within this
year he'll be able to stay in the room with the crate door open. But for the first three years, the crate has saved us.

Just be sure to get a crate big enough so that he can turn around and get comfortable. Put some old clothes or towels in there that smell like his family. Put in a rawhide chew or two. Have you ever watched your dog all day when you're home? I don't know about

yours, but ours does almost nothing but SLEEP! That is what dogs are programmed to do--sleep alot and then "hunt" (which in these days is play). So the crate gives him his den to sleep in. Even a lab mix can use a crate.

I'm not sure about leaving both dogs crated in the same room. It might be better on two different floors or in different rooms. They might just work themselves up into a tizzy--kind of like dogs do at the kennel or the pound--if they can see or hear each other in the same room.

Keep us posted on your efforts!
