making more time in the day
By Vicky

Clip to ScrapBook
I promised myself to leave school at school after had I had first child. Six years and two more kids later I have found ways to pretty much keep that promise. I have procedures set up that make everything a little easier
and faster and it all adds up. For instance, when the students come in they put their homework in a tray and get started on bellwork. I quickly check through the papers and note missing, incomplete or work that wasn't checked at home on my checklist. The student of the day passes the papers back. Every child has a folder with one pocket labelled KEEP AT HOME and one labelled RETURN TO SCHOOL.
As soon as we finish any paper, it goes into the appropriate pocket. Classwork and seatwork are always checked but never graded. It is tons easier and faster to quickly highlight or circle incorrect answers and move on. This goes home and is an excellent chance for parents to work with they child and to see exactly what is giving them problem. I make my life eay when it comes to graded papers. There is no reason to assign 50 problems if you can tell if they understand to concept by using ten. I use my planning period once a week to plan, once a week to run copies for the next week, the other days are used for grading or meetings. I hope some of these ideas help.
