I teach shapes every year. I base the unit of the book by Tommi De Ploma (sp) called the Quilt Story. We read the book, I bring in a quilt and we talk about the colors and how a triangle, can make a square and
I also have the kids make a shape book. I have the definition already typed out of each shape. As paret of a cutting excercise the kids cout out the difinition and paste it on one page. Then we make something to represent the shape. We use straws to make the square, toothpickes to make the rectangle, coffee filters painted to be the circle, Q-tips for the triangle, a butterfly for symmetry and a long rubber band for the oval. The books are darling and parents love them. Hope this helps . . .questions? e-mail me Kim
