Helpful Hints (I hope!) By StephR

Some things that I do in upper grades to help with the paper work are:* During writing time, I do a lot of conferencing with students. This allows me to correct mistakes and make adjustments as they are writing, instead | of waiting until I have a stack of papers 35 thick to edit. I also do a great deal of peer editing. This way, I get back papers with few spelling errors. * For math, one tip I have is not to correct ALL problems, as that would take FOREVER!! I usually just choose 3 or 4 typical problems and correct those on each paper. This give me an idea if the kids are getting it, without having | | to go through all papers.* I found that creating mulitple choice tests for all subjects made grading easier. I modeled the tests after our district assessments in Language Arts and Math...trying to use the same wording that would be used. Then the kids could easily correct the tests, and I would just have to record the score. With fill in the answer tests, it is a little bit more subjective and requires far more attention...which would mean I would have to do more correcting. *****This would really help the kids get prepared for the CAT6 at the end of the year too. (as they were already used to the language of a math test, for example)***** Hope these ideas give you something to work with!!
