I divided my class into 4 main reading groups based on their reading levels. At the end of the day I have "reading groups" from 2:05-2:55. (We get out at 3:00). I have four main activities going on at once: 1 one group does guided reading with me 2 one group does a making words lesson or practices word cards, or does a written response/ illustration to our current reading story in the basal with my teacher's aide 3 one group works out of 3 'reading baskets' that contain simple readers, books on tape, and flash cards (they work independently) 4 one group works on the current activity in the "activity basket" Write now we are writing our own version of "Minerva Louise" called "Minerva Louise In the Fall" It is turning out real cute so far! I like this system the best of any I've tried so far! Two groups have an adult while two work on their own. We change groups after 20 minutes. So, they only do two groups a day. They read with me one day and do an independent activity then read with my aide the next day and do an independent activity. How about letting them use fly swatters to swat the reading words? They love this one! Use magnetic letters to make the reading sight words. I don't know if this is the kind of info. you wanted? !!!
