What do the kids have to keep them busy? Kids this age will act up out of shear boredom...playing games? I had a class meeting and each of my kids got to post a rule they thought was important...then you can tell them "you're| breaking so and so's rule" but I didn't stop there....I let them come up with the consequences! I took over a class that was "OUT OF FREAKIN' CONTROL" and now I have the best class in the building! There are plenty of activities....and space for the older ones to have privacy from the younger ones. You should be sure that they are being responsible for their own things....I NEVER | | use time out...I have them take a break to settle down because they are choosing not to listen and they need to think about a better choice, when they tell me what the better choice is and promise they will follow through, I let them get up. Also, I use outside and we have a nintendo they play on Wed. in the afternoon...I take minutes away. They straighten up real quick when you remove time from an enjoyed activity. Hope things work better for you...just remember you're the boss! It sounds cruel, but my first week in this crazy room, I made the kids sit in collective time out several times, just to prove my point....they didn't like that, so I didn't have to do it after the first week. Good luck...I know exactly where you are!
